Pearls of Wisdom 336
1. Knowledge is light; avarice ice.
Knowledge is water; this world dirt.
A trickle of wisdom appears from beyond
to check the vices of this world.
Should the trickle become abundant,
none would endure, be it virtue or vice.
2. Sometimes in order to help He makes us cry.
Happy the eye that sheds tears for His sake.
Fortunate the heart that burns for His sake
Laughter always follows tears.
Blessed are those who understand.
Life blossoms wherever water flows.
Where tears are shed Divine Mercy is shown.
3. Your bounty fulfills every need.
Why should we turn to any other?

LESSON OF THE DAY 1306
Ayahs of the day:
O believers! Do not nullify your charities by reproach or abuse, like those who spend their money to be seen by the people, not believing in God or the last day. They are like hard rock with some dust on it, hit by rain and left barren. They can do nothing with what they have acquired. For God does not guide atheistic people. [2:264]
Hadith of the day:
Ask God for pardon and safety, for, after certainty, no one is ever given anything better than safety. [Tirmidhi]
Wise quote of the day:
Do not sit idle for indeed death is seeking you. [Hasan al Basri]
Guidance of the day:
To love, for God's sake, those who obey Him, and to detest, for God's sake, those who disobey Him, are two of the strongest knots of faith. He who is satisfied with God as Lord should of necessity be satisfied with His management of his affairs and the choices He makes for him, including the bitter things He may ordain. He should be content with whatever provision He allots him, remain obedient to Him, careful to perform what He made obligatory upon him and avoid what He forbade him.
He should be patient when enduring His tests, thankful for His favors, desirous to meet Him, satisfied with Him as Patron, Ally, and Guardian, sincere in His worship, relying on Him in both that which he can observe and that which is hidden from his view. He should seek no other help but His in times of difficulty and rely on none other than Him for the fulfillment of his needs. [Counsels of Religion by Imam al-Haddah]
Food for thought:
Aim at the sun, and you may not reach it; but your arrow will fly far higher than if aimed at an object on a level with yourself. In great attempts it is glorious even to fail. Not failure, but low aim, is crime. High aims form high characters, and great objects bring out great minds.

~The Triple Filter Test~
Rasul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “Keep away from ill-thinking/suspicions because ill-thinking is the greatest falsehood.” [Sahih Bukhari]
Commentary: During the Abbasid period one of the scholars in Baghdad was greeted by an acquaintance who said, "Do you know what I just heard about your friend?"
Scholar: "Hold on a minute, before telling me anything I'd like you to pass a little test. It's called the Triple Filter Test."
The Man: "Triple Filter Test?"
Scholar: "That's right, before you talk to me about my friend it might be a good idea to take a moment and filter what you're going to say. That's why I call it the triple filter test. The first filter is Truth. Have you made absolutely sure that what you are about to tell me is true?"
The Man: "No, actually I just heard about it and ..."
Scholar: "All right, so you don't really know if it's true or not. Now let's try the second filter, the filter of Goodness. Is what you are about to tell me about my friend something good?"
The Man: "No, on the contrary..."
Scholar: "So, you want to tell me something bad about him, but you're not certain it's true. You may still pass the test though, because there's one filter left: The filter of Usefulness. Is what you want to tell me about my friend going to be useful to me?"
The Man: "No, not really."
Scholar: "Well, if what you want to tell me is neither true nor good nor even useful, why tell it to me at all?"
Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) asks us: "O you who believe! Avoid much suspicion, indeed some suspicions are sins. And spy not, neither backbite one another. Would one of you like to eat the flesh (meat) of his dead brother? You would hate it (so hate backbiting). And fear Allah. Verily, Allah is the One Who accepts repentance, the Most Merciful." [Qur'an 49:12]
Let's pass our intended speech through the triple filter test before we madly utter our every thought. And lets subject others to the triple filter test too before we hear any number of damaging things from them.

Pearls of wisdom 335
1. If you wish for light, be ready to receive light.
Nourish your ego and be deprived of light.
If you wish to find a way out of this prison,
do not turn away;
bow down in worship and draw near.
2. "Unless You give no one gives.
O Creator, unlock the gates of Your bounty."
He turned his face to heaven and said,
"No one knows my devotion save You.
You put that prayer into my heart.
You raised a hundred hopes."
3. When you resolve to become pious, the devil
in your nature cries out at you: "Tread not
those paths, O confused one; distress and poverty
will overcome you. You will be despised, let down
by friends, you will regret it." Dread of the devil
has bound their souls; the cries of the devil are
the drover of the damned; the call of the Lord
is a guardian of the saints.
4. When we are ignorant we live in His prison;
when we become prudent we live in His palace;
when we fall asleep we become intoxicated;
when we are awakened we are in His hands.
5. Do not mourn the worldly loss;
ask for your soul to be saved.
Many delighted in what you hold dear.

LESSON OF THE DAY 1305
Ayahs of the day:
Kind and loving speech is better than charity followed by abuse. And God is self-sufficient, most gracious. [2:263]
Hadith of the day:
He who commits a sin, a black spot is inscribed in his heart. If he repents, his heart is re-burnished, but if he does not, it spreads until it covers the whole heart. [Tirmidhi]
Wise quote of the day:
If someone wants to know what position he enjoys in the eyes of God, he has only to look at what place he gives to God in his heart and life. [Hakim]
Guidance of the day:
As for enjoining good and forbidding evil, they are among the greatest of religious activities, the strongest of Islam's foundations, and the most important function of Muslims. By them affairs are straightened and everything runs in a goodly manner. By neglecting them people's rights are lost, boundaries transgressed, truth disappears, and falsehood appears.
Good in this context is everything God has enjoined upon His servants and likes them to do, while evil is everything that God dislikes them to do and likes them to avoid. Enjoining good and forbidding evil is an obligation and there can be no excuse for abandoning it. [Counsels of Religion by Imam al-Haddad]
Food for thought:
Affliction, like the iron-smith, shapes as it smites. The gem cannot be polished without friction, nor man perfected without trials. Strength is born in the deep silence of long-suffering hearts; not amid joy. Afflictions come to us, not to make us sad but sober; not to make us sorry but wise. Though all afflictions are evils in themselves, yet they are good for us, because they discover to us our disease and tend to cure. By afflictions God is spoiling us of what otherwise might have spoiled us.

"My love is obliged to those who love each other for My sake,
who sit with each other for My sake,
who visit each other for My sake,
and who spend on each other for My sake."

Pearls of wisdom 334
1. If you have no eyes, do not walk blindly;
take a staff in your hand.
If you have no staff of insight,
do not walk without a guide.
2. Happy the man who freed himself from his "self"
and united himself with the Infinite.
3. When you sought refuge in the Qur'an of God,
you mingled yourself with the essence of the prophets.
The Qur'an is a narrative of the states of the prophets who
glory in the blessed ocean of His majesty.
4. God calls Himself "Baseer" (Observant), so that the
knowledge that He is watching you may keep you
from sinning.
5. When temptation claims your reason,
know that misfortune is about to strike.
Fall down prostrate and begin to pray.
With flowing tears implore the Lord
that He may deliver you from the throes of doubt.
6. Sever the chains of the ego. Set yourself free
and witness the bright essence of your inner being.
Discover within your heart the wisdom of a Prophet
without books, without teachers, and without prudence. [Mawlana Rumi]

LESSON OF THE DAY 1304
Ayahs of the day:
Those who spend their wealth in the way of God and then do not follow what is spent with reproach or with abuse have their reward with their Lord; they will not suffer fear nor will they grieve. [2:262]
Hadith of the day:
Know that God accepts not the prayer of a distracted and heedless heart. [Tirmidhi]
Wise quote of the day:
Do not fix hopes on your health, and do not laugh away life. Remember how they walked and now their joints lie separately and the tongue with which they talked is eaten away by the worms. [Imam al Ghazali]
Guidance of the day:
Goodness is faith and obedience. Inviting others to this is a lofty rank in the sight of God and a powerful means to draw nearer to Him. Thus, he who makes enjoining goodness his habit and main preoccupation, he has taken an ample share of the heritage of the Messenger of God (peace and blessings upon him). For he was only preoccupied at all times with summoning to God, both with his words and deeds. This is why God sent him and this is what he was commanded to do.
Thus, the people nearest to the Messenger of God (peace and blessings upon him) are those who are most concerned with this matter, and most preoccupied with it, and most actively engaged in it -- enjoining good, which is faith and obedience, and forbidding their opposites, which are disbelief and sin. Success in this context being the attainment of happiness in both this world and the next. [Counsels of Religion by Imam al Haddad]
Food for thought:
Advice is seldom welcome, and those who need it the most, like it the least. He that won't be counselled can't be helped. Write down the advice of him who loves you, though you like it not at present. He that gives good advice, builds with one hand; he that gives good counsel and example, builds with both; but he that gives good admonition and bad example, builds with one hand and pulls down with the other.

"Allah is the Light of the Heavens and the Earth".
The parable of His Light is as if there were a niche and within it a lamp,
the lamp enclosed in glass,
the glass shining like a radiant star:
lit from a blessed tree -
an olive tree neither of the East nor of the West -
whose oil would almost give light (of itself) even though it had not been touched by fire.
Light upon Light!
'Allah guides whom He will to His Light.'
'Allah doth set forth Parables for men: and Allah doth know all things.' [The Holy Quran, 24:35]
Ubayy ibn Ka`b[ra] said:-
'The similitude of His light [takes place in] the Muslim's heart.'
This light, which He has placed in the heart -- love, faith and the remembrance of God. It is the light that He has sent down to His servants, by which He gives them life, and by which they walk among people. Its origin is in their hearts, but then He strengthens and increases it until it appears upon their faces, limbs, bodies, even their clothes and dwellings.
People of this nature perceive it, while others deny it.
On the Day of Judgement, however, it will come forth by their faith, and hasten before them in the darkness of the Bridge, that they might cross it.
They will proceed in proportion to either its strength or its weakness in their hearts during their life in the world.[Ibn Kathir, 3:464]

1. Hidden creatures good and bad always touch the heart. The touch of the angel is inspiration; Satanic touches temptations untold. Tarry with patience until your confusion is resolved and you know whom you rejected and who became the leader of your heart.
2. As he beheld the light of God he felt protected and was delivered from the throes of doubt.
3. Abstinence is better than seeking a remedy.
Scratching the abrasion only makes it worse.
Fasting is the foremost principle of medicine.
Fast, and behold the strength of the spirit.
4. If you wish to shine like the daylight, burn up the night of self-importance.
Dissolve the self like copper in the elixir; dissolve in Him who fosters all existence.
But you are bound by the discord of "I" and "We". The cause of your ruin is this sad dualism.
5. Be in the world or the space He is with you.
He chastises to make the impure pure.
6. Neglect devotion and be bound by fetters of pain and doubt.
Seek freedom, the remedy of all pain.
Seek the roots from which sprout leaves and fruit.
Water the roots and grow to perfection.

LESSON OF THE DAY 1303
Ayahs of the day:
Those who give of their wealth in the way of God are like a grain that sprouts seven ears with a thousand kernels in each ear. And God may choose to multiply what anyone has, at will. And God is all-embracing, all-knowing. [2:261]
Hadith of the day:
And he said (peace and blessings upon him), he who says every morning and evening three times; "Radheetu billahi rabban wa bil islami deenan wa bi Muhammad nabiyyan -- I am satisfied with God as Lord, Islam as religion, and Muhammad as Prophet", God-without doubt -will satisfy him on Resurrection Day. [Ahmad]
Wise quote of the day:
"In the name of God" at the start is remembrance, and "All praise to God" at the end is thanks, and perceiving and thinking of those bounties and gifts of His mercy is reflection. [Badiuzzaman Sa'id Nursi]
Guidance of the day:
Praise and thank God abundantly for the grace of Islam, for it is the greatest and most immense of graces. Were God to give this world all that is in it to one of His servants, but withhold Islam, it would be a catastrophe for him. But were He to grant another of His servants Islam and withhold the whole world, it would not harm him. For when the first dies he will end up in the Fire, while the second, when he dies, will end up in the Garden.
You must maintain yourself in a state of fear and anxiety of a bad ending, for God is who turns the hearts. Know that those who neglect their obligatory prayers often suffer a bad ending to their lives, and so do those who neglect obligatory zakat, pry upon other Muslims' privacy, cheat in weights and measures, deceive Muslims and delude them by causing them confusion, whether in religious or worldly matters, and those who belie God's saints and disparage them unjustly, as well as those who falsely pretend they possess the states of the saints and their stations, and other such loathsome things.
"O Most Merciful of all, we ask You by the light of Your Noble Countenance to take us to You as Muslims and make us join the virtuous, in well being, O Lord of the worlds, ameen." [Counsels of Religion by Imam al Haddad]
Food for thought:
The actions of men are the best interpreters of their thoughts. Think like a man of action and act like a man of thought. Action may not always bring happiness; but their is no happiness without action. It is by acts and not by ideas that people live. Good actions ennoble us, and we are the sons of our own deeds.

Guidance of the day:
Praise and thank God abundantly for the grace of Islam, for it is the greatest and most immense of graces. Were God to give this world all that is in it to one of His servants, but withhold Islam, it would be a catastrophe for him. But were He to grant another of His servants Islam and withhold the whole world, it would not harm him. For when the first dies he will end up in the Fire, while the second, when he dies, will end up in the Garden.
You must maintain yourself in a state of fear and anxiety of a bad ending, for God is who turns the hearts. Know that those who neglect their obligatory prayers often suffer a bad ending to their lives, and so do those who neglect obligatory zakat, pry upon other Muslims' privacy, cheat in weights and measures, deceive Muslims and delude them by causing them confusion, whether in religious or worldly matters, and those who belie God's saints and disparage them unjustly, as well as those who falsely pretend they possess the states of the saints and their stations, and other such loathsome things.

Wonderful touching story....
A woman baked chapatti (roti) for members of her family and an extra one for a hungry passerby. She kept the extra chapatti on the window sill, for whosoever would take it away. Every day, a hunchback came and took away the chapatti. Instead of expressing gratitude, he muttered the following words as he went his way: "The evil you do remains with you: The good you do, comes back to you!" This went on, day after day. Every day, the hunchback came, picked up the chapatti and uttered the words: "The evil you do, remains with you: The good you do, comes back to you!" The woman felt irritated. "Not a word of gratitude," she said to herself...
"Everyday this hunchback utters this jingle! What does he mean?" One day, exasperated, she decided to do away with him. "I shall get rid of this hunchback," she said. And what did she do? She added poison to the chapatti she prepared for him! As she was about to keep it on the window sill, her hands trembled. "What is this I am doing?" she said. Immediately, she threw the chapatti into the fire, prepared another one and kept it on the window sill. As usual, the hunchback came, picked up the chapatti and muttered the words: "The evil you do, remains with you: The good you do, comes back to you!" The hunchback proceeded on his way, blissfully unaware of the war raging in the mind of the woman.
Every day, as the woman placed the chapatti on the window sill, she offered a prayer for her son who had gone to a distant place to seek his fortune. For many months, she had no news of him.. She prayed for his safe return. That evening, there was a knock on the door. As she opened it, she was surprised to find her son standing in the doorway. He had grown thin and lean. His garments were tattered and torn. He was hungry, starved and weak. As he saw his mother, he said, "Mom, it's a miracle I'm here. While I was but a mile away, I was so famished that I collapsed. I would have died, but just then an old hunchback passed by. I begged of him for a morsel of food, and he was kind enough to give me a whole chapatti. As he gave it to me, he said, "This is what I eat everyday: today, I shall give it to you, for your need is greater than mine!" " As the mother heard those words, her face turned pale.
She leaned against the door for support. She remembered the poisoned chapatti that she had made that morning. Had she not burnt it in the fire, it would have been eaten by her own son, and he would have lost his life! It was then that she realized the significance of the words:
"The evil you do remains with you: The good you do, comes back to you!"
Do good and Don't ever stop doing good, even if it is not appreciated at that time.

2. Always abide by the rights of God and the rights of man.

6. You will be asked about the deeds, and the relations you maintained with mankind.
7. Sovereignty belongs to Him -- He has granted you a lot and can take all away if He so desires.
8. Strictly observe Akhlaq- Husna (the code of nobility and proper conduct).
9. One should always ponder over the purpose for which he came in this world, and what he has so far achieved.
10. Spend your time in remembering Him. It is He who has granted you this time.
11. Be prepared all the time to return to your original abode.
12. This universe is His book; take lessons from it.

LESSON OF THE DAY 1302
Ayahs of the day:
God is the protector of believers, taking them out of the darkness into the light. As for scoffers, their protectors are the idols, which take them out of the light into the darkness. They are the inmates of hell fire, wherein they remain. [2:257]
Hadith of the day:
He has experienced the taste of faith who is satisfied with God as Lord, Islam as religion, and Muhammad (peace and blessings upon him) as Prophet. [Tirmidhi]
Wise quote of the day:
A person who discourses on religion without remembering that he will be questioned by God on what he says knows the value of neither religion nor his own mind. [Imam Abu Hanifah]
Guidance of the day:
A person should strive to guard his Islam and strengthen it by accomplishing those acts of obedience to God which he is commanded to do. He who neglects God's commands exposes himself to die on other than Islam; for his being neglectful is evidence that he cares little for his religion and takes it lightly. Let every Muslim beware of this to the extreme.
He should also avoid sins and evil deeds, for they weaken Islam, render it feeble, shake its foundations, and make it liable to be wrested away at the time of death, as has actually happened -- may God protect us -- to many who persistently committed such acts. So reflect on this and impose upon yourself obedience to the injunctions of God the Exalted, and avoidance of what He has prohibited. Should you slip to any of these, repent to God and beware to the extreme to persist. And constantly ask God for good ending to your life. [Counsels of Religion by Imam al Haddad]

Death has ten thousand several doors for men to take their exit. Every life is different from any that has gone before it and so is every death. The uniqueness of each of us extends even to the way we die. Unique circumstances of death will be granted to someone with a unique personality.

Remedy for the tarnished heart....
"There is a polish for everything that removes the Rust;
and the polish for the heart is the remembrance of Allah."
(Bukhari)
Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyya (rahimahullah) said:-
“Doubtless, a heart grows tarnished like brass or silver, and its polish is in remembrance of Allah Mighty and Majestic, which may make it shine like a crystal mirror.
When one neglects the remembrance the heart tarnishes,and when one returns it shines.
Since the heart is tarnished by two things -- heedlessness and sin; it is polished by two things -- remembrance and seeking forgiveness.”
and the polish for the heart is the remembrance of Allah."

Pearls of wisdom 331
1. Whatever one does not like for himself, he should not under any circumstances, suggest for others.
2. Every work, spiritual or otherwise, appears difficult in the beginning but perseverance makes it easy.
3. Real pleasure lies not in accumulation but in the distribution of wealth.
4. Love of God and love of mammon cannot subsist in one heart.
5. Malice and ill-will should be rooted out from the heart.
6. One who serves becomes the master.
7. Resignation to the will of God is the real key to peace and satisfaction in life.
8. The purpose of prayer is to get rid of self-conceit. One who is ego-centric and selfish cannot achieve anything spiritually.
9. Every wealth has its zakat, and the zakat of knowledge and learning is to act upon it.
10. Self-criticism and quarrel with one's own self is better than seventy years of prayer.
11. One should be kind-hearted and should deal with people with clemency.
12. Prayers should be inspired neither by the fear of hell nor by love of heaven. Love of God should be the only inspiring motive.

LESSON OF THE DAY 1301
Ayahs of the day:
O Believers, give of what We have provided for you, before there comes a day in which there is no barter, and no friendship, and no intercession. [2: 254]
Hadith of the day:
Gentleness is never mixed with anything without embellishing it nor is it ever taken away from anything without disfiguring it. [Muslim]
Wise quote of the day:
Who can be a greater wastrel than a man whom even learning has not been able to keep away from sin and depravity. [Imam Abu Hanifah]
Guidance of the day:
"Die not except as Muslims." [3:102] is a command from Allah the Almighty in His Book, to die adhering to Islam, (the word Islam in this context refers to original meaning of submission to God) -- God's religion, of which He informed us in His Book that it is the only Religion in His sight and that He will accept none other, that it is the religion He found pleasing for His Messenger and His believing servants.
A human being lacks the power to force himself to die as a Muslim, but God has granted him the means to attain to that. When he makes use of the means he would have done what is his to do and obeyed what he was commanded to do, namely to intend to die a Muslim, love this, wish for it, resolve to do it, and loathe to die on any other religion. He should persist in praying for this, imploring God and beseeching Him to take him to Him as a Muslim.
Thus did God describe His Prophets and the virtuous among His servants. He said in mentioning Joseph son of Jacob -- may peace be upon them, "You are my ally in this world and the next, take me as a Muslim and make me join the virtuous, (12:101). And mentioning Pharaoh's magicians when they became believers and were threatened chastisement by Pharaoh, "Our Lord, give us fortitude in abundance and take us as Muslims, (7:126). The world of bees is full of wonders that remind us of Allah's care. The tiny bee leaves its hive in order to seek out sustenance. It lands on a good and pure surface and sucks out the nectar. It then returns with a fluid that provides remedy for people, always returning to its own hive without losing its way -- a lesson to be learned from.

How to take care of the heart....
Ibn Hajar Al-Asqalaanee [rahimahullahu] said:-
The heart has been singled out because it is the leader of the body and through the purification of the leader...
the subjects become purified.
and with its corruption they become corrupted.
So if you, O servant of Allaah, wish to cure your heart then it is upon you to be truthful with regards to---
(1)Seeking refuge with Allaah
and
(2)Putting trust in Him,
to
(3)Pray a great deal of supererogatory prayers,
to
(4)Perform the actions of obedience to Allaah frequently.
(5) Pray the night prayer while the people are sleeping, and to treat your heart by
(6) Making it continuously stick to the remembrances and by
(7) Befriending only the righteous…
and to
(8)Frequently recite the Qur’aan.
And Allaah will indeed allow all of this to be preserved by Him.

Pearls of wisdom 330
1. Many a life is long in years but meager in fruits, and many a life is short in years but rich in fruits.
2. He who has been blessed in life attains in a short time, to such gifts from God that no expression or symbolic allusion could describe.
3. Meditation is the voyage of the heart and the lamp of the heart; when it goes away, the heart has no illumination.
4. He who attributes humility to himself is really proud, for humility arises only out of sublime state.
5. Real humility is the one which rises from the contemplation of His Sublimity and illumination of His Attributes.
6. He made devil your enemy so that, through him, He could drive you toward Himself, and He stirred up your soul against you so that your drawing to Him would be permanent.
7. So long as you have not contemplated the Creator, you belong to the created beings; but when you contemplated Him, created beings belong to you.
8. He only made afflictions come at the hands of people so that you not repose in them. He wanted to drive you out of everything so that nothing would divert you from Him. [Above quotes by Ibn Ata Allah Iskandari]
