LESSON OF THE DAY 117

Ayah of the Day:
O you who believe! violate not the sanctity of the symbols of Allah, nor of the sacred month, nor of animals brought for sacrifice, nor the garlands that mark out such animals, nor the people resorting to the sacred House, seeking the bounty and pleasure of their Lord. But when you are clear of the Sacred Precincts and of pilgrim garb, you may hunt, and let not the hatred of some people in (once) shutting you out of the Sacred mosque lead you to transgression. Help one another in righteousness and piety, but help not one another in sin and rancor; fear Allah; for Allah is strict in punishment. [5:2]

Hadith of the Day:
The Prophet (peace be upon him) took a piece of silk in his right hand and a piece of gold in his left hand and said: "These two things are unlawful for the males of my Ummah." [Abu daud]

Wise Quote of the Day:
Be joyous for an increase in knowledge or in good works, for they are your two companions who will accompany you in your grave when your family, wealth, children and friends stay behind. [Imam Ghazali]

Guidance of the Day:
In seeking knowledge, it is essential to listen to words of knowledge and wisdom with reverence, even if one hears the same question and same words a thousand times. It is necessary in the quest of knowledge to be on guard from shameful traits of character, for they are the howling dogs of the spirit.

It is said."Knowledge is hostile to the haughty youth, just as torrential rain is hostile to the highlands." It is also said, "All glory is attained by exertion, not by luck. Is luck without exertion any glory? How many a slave ranks with the free, and how many a freeborn ranks with the slave!" [Instruction of the student--The method of learning]

Food for Thought:
Be courteous to all, but intimate with few, and let those few be well tried before you give them your confidence. If instead of a gem or even flowers, we cast the gift of a loving thought into the heart of a friend, that would be giving like the angels give.
